Spending Christmas and New Years Eve in Bangkok

As the Thailand capital is seeing record numbers of visitors each and every year there has never been a better time to spend your Christmas and New Years vacation here. Although Christmas and New Year is warm and tropical in Bangkok as opposed to the cold snowy nights found in many other cities at this time of year, the city still gets right into the festive spirit. Bangkok is reliant on its tourism trade and takes the Christmas and New Years period seriously. Whether you are an active or inactive traveller in Bangkok you can be confident that this will be one of your best vacations ever.
Like most tourist cities the holiday season means a spike in tourism for Bangkok and this is when most of the cities hotel's quickly become fully booked. It is important that if you are planning a trip to Bangkok at this time of year, you book early. As a large bustling city with a large tourist influx some worry that the streets and roads will become gridlocked, but this is a small concern when you see what is on offer. Bangkok is known as a shopper's paradise and the Christmas and New Years period is no different. The local shopping malls work hard to put up dazzling light displays and often compete to have the largest and brightest Christmas tree. But the best thing about it is the nightly firework displays that are conducted to appeal to the tourists. This extra effort is taken to get tourists in to buy their goods, which works well because they offer cheap prices compared to most Western countries.
Bangkok's Central World Plaza which is the home of shopping and massive food courts, has recently been renovated and is now the home for the official New Years Eve countdown. It is also home to Asia's largest and tallest Christmas tree. People from all over the world travel to Bangkok during the Christmas and New Year period, just to see what Central World has to offer. It is a spectacle not seen anywhere else in the world. The world renowned Peninsula Bangkok hotel, where many try to stay but can not, also sports a grand seven metre high Christmas tree in its trendy and very classy hotel foyer. It is well worth a visit just to stroll the foyer and see the amazing light display that this Christmas tree has to offer.
In Thailand, the people love making the lighting displays. The festivities of the Christmas and New Year period, is when you will see their greatest work. During the holiday season, the local population goes to work putting bright flashing neon lights on everything in sight including the buildings, food stalls, bridges and even cars. A walk down any of the local streets will leave you amazed with the perfectly choreographed lighting beating to the sounds of local Thai musical talent.
New Years Eve is Bangkok can only be described as sensational. Thailand is the only country in the world to celebrate a New Year, three times a year! It is little wonder that they have the celebrations so perfectly designed. At the end of January each year, Bangkok celebrates the Chinese New Year, then Songkran, the Thai New Year is celebrated over a seven day period, and then the year is culminated with the traditional western New Year celebrations. The place to be for New Years Eve is definitely Ratchadamnoen Road, which is situated along the river. It is here that top international performers and DJ's come to ring in the New Year among spectacular firework displays and cultural performances from some of Thailand's greatest performers..
Bangkok is definitely a must see city for the Christmas and New Years holiday season. There is something in place for all type of tourists. No other city in the world offers you the same mix of dining, shopping and celebration with such internationally acclaimed fanfare. Why not celebrate your next Christmas and New Year in the city known as the 'Pride of Thailand'?
