Best Time to Visit Thailand
While I like to refer to Thailand’s three seasons as hot, really hot and monsoon, Thailand’s three seasons are known as the cool season which runs from November through February, the hot season from April though May, and the rainy season from June to October. |
In my experience, the best time to travel in Thailand is November though the end of February. Since this time of year is considered the cool season, it’s relatively dry and cool compared to the rest of the year when it’s very hot and very humid with average temperatures ranging from 28-35°C. While in Bangkok temperatures rarely fall below 20°C even at night, the northern portions of the country cool off in the evening and the area can occasionally see temperatures fall below 10°C. Because of this, the cool season makes the most popular time to visit, so finding discount flights and somewhere to stay can often be expensive and difficult. |
If your goal is to avoid the crowds and take advantage of discounted rooms and low-season rates, you should consider traveling during the least crowded months of April though June and September though October. The weather during this time is more tropical, rainy, and very warm in most of the country, while Thailand’s southern peninsula is hot and humid year round. |
May through October is classified as the rainy or monsoon season. There are occasionally periods of up to two months during this time of the year when there is little or no rain fall but most other times, you will experience a downpour at least once a week. Ordinarily the rain falls during the late afternoon, seldom lasting more than a few hours. Flooding is a problem in areas of Bangkok and the surrounding provinces, near the end of the rainy season. Temperatures are high, but have a tendency to cool off to some extent after a good rain.

Generally, peak travel occurs during the months of August, November, December, February and March. October to the end of May is the best time for scuba diving in terms of visibility and accessibility.
